About Us

We are a volunteer organization dedicated to "safety at sea" and our core function is rescuing people. Secondary roles we perform are assisting with yachting regattas, outrigger races, Busselton Jetty Swim, IronmanWA and whale rescues. To put all the group's activity and member's involvement to year 30th June 2016, here's some of the groups statistics for you to consider:

  • 1084 radio watch hours
  • 147 incidents, training & events on water attended
  • 2527 Group training hours
  • 373 SAR (search & rescue) hours

The various distress and other situations attended, include towing or jump-starting vessels in distress and providing a stand-by rescue/support role for the on water events conducted in our area.

The Busselton Volunteer Marine Rescue Committee consists of;
Commander Peter Taylor, Vice Commander Brian LeCornu, Secretary Craig Archibald, Treasurer Brian Lucy, Committee Jim Frood, Jason Weaver, Sonja Poole,Dan Smith, Phil Birch .

f22sea3An ongoing role we have had in recent years is assisting the Australian Maritime Safety Authority's (AMSA) Dornier search and rescue aircraft by providing on water support for its exercises. This involves us setting up a target some 4 nautical miles offshore for the Dornier crew to locate, mark and drop various size survival containers in close proximity of the target. We then recover the containers, ropes, parachutes and arrange for their return to Perth.

Due to our involvement and experience with AMSA, the inventors/manufacturers of "MobiLarm" sought our assistance to 'test' their product prior to them demonstrating it to the United States and other international potential markets. Tests both locally and overseas were highly successful with the US market being very positive towards its use.

 Our Rescue 1 vessel a Noosa Cat operates rescue services out of Port Geographe Marina & Rescue 2 , our fast response 8.5mtr Naiad operates form our headquarters at the Georgette Street boat ramp.

 Our primary area of operation is the Busselton area of Geographe Bay (approximately North of Peppermint Beach to Siesta Park) but we do work in with Naturaliste Sea Rescue (Dunsborough) and Bunbury Sea Rescue. Whenever there is a need, we cover each other's area so that Volunteer Marine Rescue services are always available in this part of the South West of West Australia.
