Unlike other emergency services grouped under Fire & Emergence Services Department, Volunteer Marine Rescue groups do NOT receive any funding from the Emergency Services Levy that is collected through rates by Local Government bodies.

Other than operational costs, fundraising is necessary on Volunteer Marine Rescue groups needing to upgrade or acquire essential resources not funded.

Sponsorship is an important component of "fundraising" but raffles, sausage sizzles, quiz nights and any other initiatives to raise those critical dollars must be undertaken by group members. This all takes time that we consider could be better utilized by training etc., that would better equip us to constantly improve our response capabilities.


The most common fundraising is by people making direct donations. All donations of $2.00 or more are tax deductible.
